Delving into the mind of one of those weird artist people

“The Bee’s Knees” my next short animated film (part 16 of a bazillion)

We had some wooin’ here in our last board…

And that’ll continue some today!

I told you that flower was coy, didn’t I?

So, she turns around all shy-like and our little buddy here decides it’s time to make his move.

Naturally, that means him licking his hands to fix his ‘hair’ (okay, they’re antennaes but I guess when you’re a bee you work with what you got!).

I like the squeaky balloon sound effect idea for when he’s fixing his ‘do- which of course pops right back up again.

I like how proud he is in that last frame too. He’s all spiffed up and ready to go!

On a side note, when I cut a foot or so off my hair last winter, I became reacquainted with the nasty cowlick I have on top of my head. I think that’s part of the inspiration here.

Then he flies up to say hi, and here’s what happens next:

Okay, so I took out that last ‘Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs’ face because it was just a bit cliched and kind of weird.

Anyway, so he flies up all swoon-y and gives her a big ol’ sniff (isn’t that how everyone surveys a girl when they first meet her?)

Also, that second shot is inspired a bit by how my dog comes up and sits in the front seat when he’s riding in the car.

Sort of puts his feet over the arm rest and gives that big moochy look that you just can’t resist.

What happens next, you say? Well… you’ll have to check back tomorrow to see!
